Endpoint Data Protection - A Top Concern for Healthcare Insurers

Abstract: Health insurance plans are leveraging information technology (IT) as never before. New tools not only provide a higher quality of service for providers and consumers of healthcare but also help organizations to meet new regulatory requirements, such as reporting aggregate data to the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulators. Enhancements in IT are also solving business problems: efficiently processing a growing volume of claims, promoting evidence-based care, adding value to healthcare services, and enabling more efficient operations while empowering consumers with new access to health and payment information as well as to decision support tools. At the same time, provisions of ARRA (commonly known as the 2009 federal stimulus package) mandate and fund a nationwide health information technology infrastructure that will improve quality of care by enabling the secure electronic use and exchange of protected health records by 2014.
