PC Guardian's Encryption Plus® Hard Disk 7.0 Now Government-Certified for Australia and New Zealand
SAN RAFAEL, CA, USA -- June 23, 2003 -- PC Guardian (www.pcguardian.com), developer of encryption software that protects data on enterprise PCs, announced that the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD), Australia's national authority for information security certification, has certified Encryption Plus Hard Disk 7.0, enabling government agencies to use EP Hard Disk to protect government data.
"The certification allows federal, state and local governments in Australia and New Zealand to use EP Hard Disk to protect data and prevent unauthorized access to government PCs," says Mr. Chris Joscelyne, Managing Director of Australian Projects Pty Limited, master distributor of PC Guardian's data protection software products in Australia and New Zealand.
The DSD certification follows two months after the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), the U.S. government agency authorized to certify software, announced EP Hard Disk 7.0 was certified against the International Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation (known as the "Common Criteria").
EP Hard Disk prevents any unauthorized person from gaining access to a PC's operating system, applications, and data. EP Hard Disk operates at the boot-sector level, which means the program will not allow the Windows operating system to start until the user properly authenticates him/herself. In addition, EP Hard Disk protects all data on the hard drive using the Advanced Encryption Algorithm (AES) and a 256-bit encryption key. Similar to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and several other countries, the Defence Signals Directorate has endorsed AES as the recommended algorithm for Australian government use.
