Encryption Anywhere™ CD-DVD

Encryption Anywhere™ CD-DVD provides effective, flexible encryption of data and programs that are stored, published, or distributed on CD or DVD.

Data files on more than one million discs have been protected by Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD (formerly distributed as Encryption Plus® CD-ROM). The program is ideal for a wide variety of applications, including the protection of financial information, sensitive medical records, or proprietary documentation, as well as encryption of specialized tools distributed via disc.

Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD:

  • Is simple to setup and use
  • Protects data with a strong, government-certified encryption algorithm
  • Includes four methods of user authentication
  • Decrypts data automatically once a user has been authenticated
  • Allows administrators to limit access to encrypted data on certain computers
  • Gives administrators the ability to expire access to encrypted data after a specified period of time

Benefits

Simple to Use
Users never have to change the way they create or distribute discs. Simply encrypt the data, then copy the encrypted files and the Encryption Anywhere decryption/authentication program onto a CD or DVD. Make as many copies of the disc as you need to.

Strong Security
Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD protects data using a FIPS certified AES algorithm and a strong 256-bit encryption key.

Automatic, On-the-Fly Data Encryption
Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD protects data with a true on-the-fly encryption process that decrypts only the specific portion of a file that is in use.

Versatile
Depending on your needs, the program will encrypt all or only selected files that you copy to the CD or DVD. Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD's decryption engine automatically identifies which files are encrypted and decrypts them for the authorized user.

Four Methods of Authentication
Encryption Anywhere uses one of four methods of authentication: Password, Password and Workstation, Remote Activation, and Workstation.

  • Password: for any authorized user with a password; includes password expiration.
  • Workstation: access restricted to specific computers; administrator can set optional password.
  • Password and Workstation: restricts access to selected computers and requires a password.
  • Remote Activation: uses a challenge response method so that users must identify themselves to administrators.

When data is encrypted with Encryption Anywhere CD-DVD, users can still read the folder and file names. However, the encrypted files can be opened and viewed only by an authorized user.

The main administrative program window allows the administrator to set up the program, select files and folders for encryption, run a test that makes sure the encryption worked properly, and create the user installation programs.

Installation and Use

Administrators

  1. From the Administrator Main Menu, click Settings to enter your privacy code and administrator password.
  2. At the Administrator Program Main menu, click Encrypt Files. Create a target folder, select the files or folders that you would like to copy to the target folder, and encrypt.
  3. At the Administrator Main menu, click Create User Install. The installation files give the authorized user a way to access the encrypted data on a disc. There are four authentication methods: password, workstation, password and workstation, and remote activation.
  4. Copy the encrypted data and program files, as applicable, to a disc. Program files will vary depending on the authentication method you select.
  5. Copy and distribute protected discs (and workstation authentication installation files, if applicable) to users. If you have chosen Remote Activation, distribute the remote activation program files to support desk personnel so they can generate activation codes for users.

Users

If administrators select Password Authentication, users are prompted for a password. Once the password is entered correctly, encrypted files are available for viewing or copying.

If administrators select Workstation Authentication, users install the program provided to them by the administrator. The program configures the specified workstations to read encrypted data from discs (password optional). Data on discs cannot be accessed on any other workstation.

If administrators select Password and Workstation Authentication, users install the program provided to them, authenticate on the computer with the workstation password (optional), and then access data on the disc with a password. Data on discs cannot be accessed on any other workstation.

If administrators select Remote Activation, users will be prompted with a one-time challenge key upon loading a protected disc. They then contact the administrator or Help Desk, submit the challenge key, and receive an activation code. They enter the activation code, a decryption engine will install itself on the workstation and users will be granted access to data on the disc.
