Benefits
- Strong Standards-Based Encryption
To protect data, Encryption Plus Email uses a FIPS 140-2 compliant AES algorithm with a 256-bit encryption key. The program also uses a 233-bit Elliptic Curve Cryptography algorithm to create public-private key pairs and protect the encryption keys.
- Simple to Install and Use
Encryption Plus Email installs in minutes. It requires no training and very little change in the way users work. Users can easily change settings from within their email applications and do not have to change the way they send email.
- Simplified Public Key Management
Encryption Plus Email uses public-private key technology to allow on-the-fly decryption among users of the program — without key servers, Certificate Authorities, or a PKI. Users manage their public keys at their workstations with a graphical Recipient Manager.
- Recipients Don't Need Special Software
To decrypt and read encrypted files, recipients just need a password and a computer running Windows.
How It Works
After launching the Administrator Program, the administrator configures and creates the User Program Setup files. This only takes a few minutes.
Next, the administrator distributes the User Program to users. The program can be installed silently over a network and made automatically available when users begin their next work session.
At install time, Encryption Plus Email creates and stores a unique public-private key pair for each user. Users do not have to do anything to complete this process.
To send an encrypted message, the user opens the Recipient Manager, adds an email address for the intended recipient, and presses the Send Key button. The sender's public key is sent as an attachment to an email message and displays in recipient's email inbox.
If the recipient is using Encryption Plus Email, the recipient clicks on the message and is prompted to accept the key. If the recipient wants to enable secure communications with the sender, he or she accepts the key.
Encryption Plus Email automatically adds the sender's key and associated email address to the Recipient Manager. In addition, Encryption Plus Email automatically sends the recipient's public key back to the sender and seamlessly and transparently updates the sender's Recipient Manager with this information.
From now on, email and attachments exchanged between the sender and recipient will be encrypted, transmitted, and decrypted on-the-fly. If a recipient does not use Encryption Plus Email , he or she can still decrypt messages with a password, which the sender and recipient exchange out-of-band (typically on the phone).
